necessary to understand how a normal torque wrench works before diving into the electronic version. Essentially, a torque wrench is used to apply a precise amount of torque to a fastener, such a nut or bolt. It is often in the form of a socket wrench, but with special internal mechanisms. In theory, this tool allows the operator to measure the exact amount of torque needed in a particular application, so that it can be matched to the specifications of that application. Originally designed to prevent the over-tightening of bolts on steam pipes and water mains, a torque wrench is used when the tightness of screws is crucial.
